Beginners Sewing Class - The Bondi Top (pattern by Sew to Grow)

Time: 10 am - 2:00 pm (4 hours)
Date: Monday, 13th July 2022

Age Level: 16 years +
Erin will take you through measuring yourself to decide which size of pattern you will need to cut to make The Bondi Top. She will talk about fabric selection, how to transfer pattern markings to your fabric (notches, pleat markings etc) and will guide you through cutting out your fabric and sewing it together.
Once you have cut your fabric, it's time to assemble your garment! Erin will assist you with checking that your sewing machine is set up and threaded correctly, bobbin wound and correct needle selected! Practice on a piece of calico (provided) before starting to sew.
You will learn how to match notches, assemble your garment, sew a pleat, attach a yoke, topstitch, hem and attach a neck bias binding.
At the end of the session - you will have completed your first top and have new found skills to complete many more
Pattern Alteration Options: If you would like to learn how to adjust your pattern to change the neckline, increase bust area, adjust hem length, add sleeve length or add sleeve cuffs, there is an option to add an additional hour to the beginning of your lesson to allow for the alteration of the pattern

Excellent patient teacher - First experience with pattern drafting, correct measurement taking and making a toile from calico first . Then on to the top which I love, with much help from Erin. Will go back for further lessons when time allows. Thanks to Sue for organising the day. Highly recommend
A day of "serious" fun. I'm still smiling! Our tutor, Erin, kept us moving along steadily at a gentle pace, first helping us identify our pattern size, and then guiding our construction of the toile (mock-up) using calico fabric which was included in the cost of the Workshop along with Bondi Top Pattern. After I tried on my calico mock-up, the pattern needed just a couple of tweaks, and then the fabric cutting followed. I didn't realise my fabric had a directional design; Erin showed me how to line up the design correctly, which had some magical results appearing when the garment was completed. My fabric was a slippery rayon that needed Erin's expert advice on how best to handle it. We then moved on to sewing, which was very easy. I'm so pleased with the finished garment. Thank you Erin for your expert guidance, and Sue for hosting a valuable learning experience, I got a lot out of the opportunity and so did my garment collection. I'd recommend this workshop to anyone looking for a guiding hand, and encouragement, helping with their dream of making their own clothes well. I'd certainly do it again.
