My block of the month program for 2020 is Jen Kingwell's Pschedelia quilt pattern. Each month is a completely different pattern and ships with acrylic templates. I am largely following the same colour palette as Jen, using a mix of white on black and black on white fabrics as the background fabric and then some gorgeous Kaffe Fassett fabrics as the contrast. The fabrics were chosen pretty randomly from my large collection in the shop. The great thing about using Kaffe Fassett fabrics, as they all look fabulous together even when you use large scale prints!
This month's block is called Articture. It is a variation on a drunkard's path block. The templates make cutting out the block more accurate and can also be used to mark the sewing line. I placed my fabric on a sandboard and then used an HB pencil to trace around the templates before cutting out with scissors rather than a rotary cutter. I am documenting my process on YouTube and show you this process there.
I then hand pieced (sewed) the pieces together. One trick I learned to make the stitches stronger, is to do a back stitch every 3 or so stitches. I think the finished block looks magic even if I do say so myself.
